A cranky slayer is a careless slayer

Yes, that's right, I've got Buffy On My Mind. I missed a few years of television viewing and it seems that during that time, the world was offering me Buffy. I had no idea. Over the past few days, the girls initiated me into Buffydom via the first season. After having worked my way through Angel, seasons I & II, I was struck at how much less polished the beginning of Buffy seemed. I'm not sure if they use turbo stakes on Angel, but the time it takes from stake to dust on Buffy seems like forever.

This morning I gave Jessye a ride to her first day at her first “real” job. She’s working at The Body Shop. She looked lovely and told me she was a little bit nervous. As we drove on the empty highway in the early morning light, we talked about what adventures her day might hold. It's hard for me to believe that the serious little baby who used to sit beside me on the couch, the child who made me wonder which of us was really older than the other, will be paying FICA. Jessye just lights up every time she walks through the door of the store, and I'm glad she's so excited about this experience.

The other girls are packing up their stuff for the week. And Chloe has her leash and dish all set to go. I haven't packed a thing yet, although I've made piles of things that have made the first cut in the Cruisewear Sweepstakes. I’ve just finished giving myself a pedicure and the real countdown to cruise time begins!

What motivates me to post to my blog? This:

I finally took some pictures of my knitting and posted them on jennifermeyers.com. As I was cleaning up the files, I found this picture. Olivia took it at Aunt Rebekah's house. We visited after the Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY. Rebekah and Adam moved in just the week before. (I'm knitting the mohair shawlthing which I finished within a couple days. Pictures on my knitting blog).
You probably don't realize it, but it's a really great thing that the picture came out okay. Earlier that day, Olivia dropped my digital camera on the pavement. Here's the reaction shot:

Busy saving up stories

I was thinking today what a slug I've been blog-wise lately. For those of you who know me well, you know that no matter what is going on in my life, I write first thing in the morning. I write in a college-ruled notebook, usually while sitting in bed drinking coffee (flanked by dogs). I can tell you that it's then that I write my best stuff...you'll never know. But even if I didn't, it has seemed to be enough written sharing for me lately. I've also changed my online habits significantly. I've pretty much confined my online time to between the hours of 9-4, monday through friday only. And with all the knitting boards to read, I haven't had much time left for blogsharing.

Today I was finally given a date for my last day of work. I know this sounds strange, but it's really the perfect time. I was originally notified in August but they've managed to prolong it until just before Christmas. I have just enough personal time to help M through his surgery, enjoy Thanksgiving with my kids, and TAKE A CRUISE with my mother. That's right. Does this woman know how to bring a smile (and some freckles) to my face, or what??? She's booked a cruise for the beginning of the wintery weather just so we can get squarely into the holiday spirit. I am so grateful to be so well loved I'm speechless.
